#AcademicRunPlaylist - 12/9/25

A large iced-over pond with small peninsulas of dry reeds jutting out into the middle on a sunny day, with wisps of clouds in the sky. Thick forest lines the far bank.

While saying goodbye to open water in Boston today I listened to some talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was a great discussion on the DMA with Konstantina Bania, René Repasi, and Niklas Brueggemann at the Digital Markets Research Hub https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5UjaeDb9fY

Next was an engaging conversation with Paul Milgrom reflecting on his work on auctions, game theory, and more at CASBS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvM4tqP4ZPE

Last was "The Game That Never Ends: How Lawyers Shape the Videogame Industry" by Julien Mailland. This is a great introduction to many intellectual property and freedom of speech concepts, bringing in tangible examples from video game history to walk through the basics. It's very US focused, and gets a bit hagiographic about the folks at Atari, but it's much more accessible than other legal books on these topics.
