I loved avoiding the hot afternoon weather by staying inside at the onsen, and while resting between soaks I listened to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!
First was an interesting talk by Alessandro Acquisti on the false tradeoff between privacy and economic growth at the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKm6Fn6P2xU
Next was an intriguing talk by James Bessen on the relationship between R&D rivalry and employment growth at the National Bureau of Economic Research https://www.youtube.com/live/eKDjSKg-auU?si=dDo1JRKFEBhk3BL9&t=17607
Next was a great talk by Hassan Afrouzi on technological change and career ladders at the NBER https://www.youtube.com/live/3MoJj55YYfw?si=-WVIZBzqA_1LD561&t=9624
Next was the first day of the NBER conference on the aggregate labor market. I particularly liked the talk by Bart K. de Koning on advising job seekers in occupations with poor prospects https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpI4iNT6LfU
Last was the NBER entrepreneurship symposium (which naturally included many Revelio Labs shoutouts!), with standout talk by Jessica Bai (VC cycles and the startup labor market), Elif Nisa Guler (effects of teaching entrepreneurship), and Amir Sariri (marginal startup ideas). Highly recommend the whole event https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_exm-tsQ_4
