#AcademicRunPlaylist - 10/5/24

Dozens of bright orange chicken of the woods mushrooms growing out of the sides of an old tree in a forest. They're growing from near the base of the tree to well over two meters high, and the mushrooms are growing out in shelfs with variable radii but an average of around 10 centimeters

Here's a shot of the chicken of the woods mushrooms I foraged earlier this week. Some lucky folks at MIT got a delivery from me, and while dining on them over the weekend I was able to listen to some talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was an interesting talk by Nika Haghtalab on a theory of multiobjective learning at the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrySVpqjGW8

Next was an intriguing talk by Shai Ben-David on guarantees for learning probability distributions at the Simons Institute https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85Ldu_9IL4c

Next was a thought-provoking talk by Tengyu Ma on understanding generalization from pre-training loss properties and implications for downstream tasks at the Simons Institute https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFp0tVQW_q0

Last was a great talk by Sivaraman Balakrishnan on fundamental statistical limits in causal inference at the Simons Institute https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mnum0Ox1f_o
