#AcademicRunPlaylist - 1/20/26

My medium-sized, short-haired black dog walking through the snow in our backyard while large flakes waft down, with the sun bursting through the clouds and sending sparkling streaks of light onto the snow-covered landscape.

There's still plenty of snow out, and while the canines enjoyed chasing snowballs that mysteriously disappeared when they hit the ground I listened to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was a great talk by Joshua Aizenman on Asian economic successes and failures post-1960 at the Asian Development Bank Institute https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZjGN4LRPsE

Next was an engaging panel on promoting regional cooperation and integration across Asia at the ADBI with Tetsushi Sonobe, Bambang Brodjonegoro, and Cyn-Young Park https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoqgKq1yIY0

Next was a great panel on market diversification for Asian products at ADBI with Sayuri Shirai, Mari Elka Pangestu, Saon Ray, Yeongkwan Song, and Zhang Liqing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifnDehHVx9s

Last was "Global Histories of Work," edited by Andreas Eckert. This is a great high level collection of historical essays on the major, longest-running classes of work and some great pieces on global labor history (I particularly liked the contribution by Marcel van der Linden, and the first piece by Andreas Eckert that grapples with the meaning of work itself is also excellent). The last section bleeds more into critical studies, however, so if you're not interested in that you can safely skip that part of the book. Highly recommend https://www.degruyterbrill.com/document/doi/10.1515/9783110437201/html
