#AcademicRunPlaylist - 8/27/24

A selfie of me in a dining hall on a sunny day. I'm a bald, middle aged, white man with a red beard flecked with white. I'm wearing glasses with a metal top rim and a grey t shirt

It was great to be back on campus at BU today, and while heading into Boston I was also able to listen to a talk and a book for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was an insightful conversation with Shilpi Bhattacharya on India's digital competition bill on the Digital Markets Research Hub. Bhattacharya gives a nice summary of the state of play in India and contrasts their recent regulatory efforts with those in the EU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAnHINjn3NY

Last was "The Battle for Your Brain" by Nita Farahany. This book is more about the ethics of mental manipulation/influence than it is about the ethics of neurotechnology, and viewed from that lens Farahany gives a good overview of this topic. This book is strongest when examining legal and philosophical issues, and the insight Farahany gives on these topics are extremely valuable https://www.nitafarahany.com/the-battle-for-your-brain
