#AcademicRunPlaylist - 8/13/24

A black swan with three ducks on its left and two on the right in a green pond on a sunny day

I spotted an actual black swan today, and while it didn't seem to presage any shocking events it still enhanced my experience of enjoying the local wildlife while listening to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was an interesting talk by Izaak Neri on spectra of complex networks at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_YgwaWjjkU

Next was an intriguing talk by Arinbjörn Kolbeinsson on composable interventions for LLMs at the USC Information Sciences Institute https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVyB-xLHLlE

Next was a great talk by Yoko Yazaki-Sugiyama on vocalizations and brain development in humans and birds at OIST https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jqby7grYeHA

Next was an excellent talk by Lucy Lai on how cognitive constraints shape decisions and actions at OIST. Lai combines rigorous psychological experiments, neuroscience, and computational modeling to present a rich model of the interaction between contextual/cognitive constraints and our behavior https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRle-fddpYo

Last was a compelling talk by Bruno Olshausen on building biologically-informed invariant and equivariant vision representation models at MIT Brain and Cognitive Sciences https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnhhp916JNU
