It was a lovely day up in Hakuba, and in between calls I went for a short run and listened to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!
First was a great discussion with Renee Jones on the evolution and current state of unicorn financial disclosures on the Business Scholarship Podcast https://youtu.be/W2UYYwn1u-Y?si=oAoCDDs8EeDGtSKS
Last was “The Law of Capitalism and How to Transform It” by Katharina Pistor. This book continues Katharina's tradition of synthesizing the core of international legal regimes to provide an incisive, clear-eyed analysis of the entanglement of legal and economic issues, here looking at the system of capitalism itself and how it has been changed by different interests and incentives. There's less on the "how to transform it" side, but honestly that's not what I want out of a book like this anyway. If you want to understand the legal framework that underpins our current global economic system and the perverse incentives and tradeoffs at its heart, this is the book for you. Highly recommend https://yalebooks.yale.edu/book/9780300282801/the-law-of-capitalism-and-how-to-transform-it/
