#AcademicRunPlaylist - 7/20/24

A selfie of me in front of a rocky mountain, with trees dusting the surface, on a sunny day

It was another beautiful day to be outside, and it was made even more enjoyable by listening to talks from my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was the afternoon session of the National Bureau of Economic Research macroeconomics and productivity symposium, with fantastic talks by Yueran Ma (superstar firms through the generations) and Bryan Seegmiller (valuing labor market power). Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1FnAoqvbhI

Next was a pair of great talks at the second day of the NBER inequality and macroeconomics conference by Daniele Paserman (female labor force participation and intergenerational mobility) and Anusha Nath (racial and gender differences in school-college-career paths) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFi0aPuL8Jg

Next was the third day of the NBER labor market conference, with notable talks by Lukas Mann (job amenity shocks and labor reallocation), Marios Karabarbounis (disincentive effects of unemployment insurance benefits), and Leon Huetsch (unions and declining industries) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkNbQiTzokY

Next was the second day of the NBER innovation conference. I particularly liked the talks by Kate Reinmuth and Emma Rockall (negative innovation impact of non-compete agreements), Brit Sharoni (effect of inventor mobility on network productivity), and Mitsuru Igami (using amazing LCD panel data to understand welfare gains from product and process innovations). Highly recommend the whole day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXdN58u7oF8

Last was an interesting pair of talks at the first day of the NBER IO conference by Brad Larsen (using eBay data to investigate bargaining efficiency in the real world) and Hunt Allcott (examining the potential breakup of Facebook and Instagram) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4mDw_RS6Ec
