#AcademicRunPlaylist - 7/19/24
I had a great day doing some hiking/light caving, and I was also able to catch some great talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!
First was the first day of the National Bureau of Economic Research innovation conference. I highly recommend the whole day, and I particularly like the talks by Max (Winkler) Posch (how social structure drives innovation), Hongyuan Xia (how industry shapes science), and Gaia Dossi (race and science), and the panel on innovation and productivity policies with Jason Furman, Donald Marron, and Catherine Rampell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9Y5Y53B5Ss
Next was a thought-provoking talk by David Woodruff on computing long-context attention in near-linear time at the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W16J9AwUyzI
Next was an engaging conversation on the importance of business model innovation for driving productivity on the Productivity Institute podcast with Charlie Mayfield and Chander Velu https://www.productivity.ac.uk/podcast/business-model-innovation-and-strategic-productivity/
Next was an intriguing talk by Shrivastava Anshumali on bringing sub-linear algorithms to LLMs at the Simons Institute https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-G0AbhDBmLM
Next was an excellent talk by Milo Trujillo on how platform design and social policies drive online behavior at the Vermont Complex Systems Center https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmkaFuzAhkE
Last was the second day of the NBER conference on the labor market, with a notable talk by Christian Moser on meritocracy in work across countries https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y81nAZgA5Hk
