#AcademicRunPlaylist - 7/17/24

A selfie of me on a path through the woods on a sunny day.

I had a nice hike up north today, and this evening I enjoyed a fantastic conversation on AI ethics with the Code2040 cohort! After cooling off a bit during the day I was also able to enjoy some talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was the National Bureau of Economic Research entrepreneurship conference. I particularly liked the talk by Samuel Mann on sexual orientation, entrepreneurship, and firm survival. Highly recommend the whole day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgMoCF6lDqo

Next was a great conversation with Paul Collier on economics for left behind places on the VoxDev podcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBB1LODaq_8

Last was a pair of talks by Mitchell VanVuren (job search vs. individual employment in developing countries) and Jesús Fernández-Villaverde (technical synergies, heterogeneous firms, and volatility) at the NBER economic growth symposium https://www.youtube.com/live/u24jy96KVrY?si=GhyZEMmQ9qQ1imWR&t=9137
