#AcademicRunPlaylist - 7/16/24

A calm, straight section of the Charles River on a sunny but cloudy day. Algae is blooming alone both banks, followed by thick forest. A tree that was knocked over and is partially submerged in the middle of the river has green leaves on it and some algae growing around it. The clouds are large and puffy, mostly white with a few that are darker

I did lots of driving today, but at least I had a good soundtrack from my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was the first day of the National Bureau of Economic Research economic growth conference. I particularly liked the talk by Martin Beraja on industry concentration https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOFQQZ3aRTo

Next was a great panel on initial enforcement efforts under the DMA from the perspective of business users on Oles Andriychuk's Digital Markets Research Hub with Martijn Snoep, Fiona Scott Morton, and Philip Marsdenhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtDJNRH9P58

Next was a packed first day of the NBER symposium on the labor market, with notable talks by Jeremy Lise (the effect of the ADA on employment), Yagan Hazard (a large-scale experiment using a recommender system to direct job search), and Justin Bloesch (when do firms profit from wage setting power). Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuM4lM8kt4c

Last was an engaging conversation with Albert Gu on post-transformer architectures for generative AI on the TWIML podcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yceNl9C6Ir0
