I had a great day swinging by Kyoto for some meetings and to catch up with my host family, and on the Shinkansen I listened to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was the final day of the National Bureau of Economics personnel economics conference. I highly recommend the whole day, and some standout talks were by Benjamin Friedrich (individual contributors in corporate hierarchies, using Visier data!) and Silvia Castro (recognition program effects) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5t0D9ePWYcs

Next was a great talk by Lionel Wilner on the effect of raising the retirement age at the NBER https://www.youtube.com/live/B-8GDWKP8AU?si=O1Mp7TwNGuQX4-AB&t=3177

Next was the NBER gender and the economy symposium, with notable talks by Gabriel Leite Mariante (child penalties in time use) and Sarvnipun Kaur (night shift bans and women’s employment in India) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mE9GNhwdY8

Last was a pair of talks at the NBER labor studies conference by Pauline Carry (effects of a shorter workweek) and Yana Gallen and Dmitri Koustas (remote work as childcare and earnings implications) https://www.youtube.com/live/rkE90GLSWC8?si=6K8yvc7hz1_PiR2_&t=3768
