There was a great matsuri in my neighborhood this weekend, and while preparing for the festivities I listened to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was “Data Safety Monitoring Boards” by Deborah Barnbaum. This is a great introduction to data safety monitoring boards, using cases to illustrate how these unique teams operate within clinical trials. Medicine is so far ahead of other fields in systematizing ethical processes, and while many introductions focus on IRBs or the Belmont Report, this book goes into detail on how these rarely discussed boards function and how different stakeholders should think about their role. If you deal at all with human experimentation (this includes technology products and management), this is a good book to pick up. Highly recommend https://mitpress.mit.edu/9780262552745/data-safety-monitoring-boards/

Last was “Technostress and Organizational Sustainability,” edited by Vincenzo Auriemma, Caterina Galdiero, Gennaro Iorio, Rosario Marrapodi, and Marcello Martinez. This is a good, although extremely broad, collection of academic sociology papers on technology and organizational effectiveness. Particularly notable for me were the chapters on digitizing worker emotions/behaviors (Vincenzo Auriemma) and managing conflict in digital/hybrid organizations (Rosario Marrapodi). As for the other chapters if the topics interest you they're totally fine if unremarkable entries https://www.routledge.com/Technostress-and-Organizational-Sustainability-Stress-Management-Emotion-and-Well-being/Auriemma-Galdiero-Iorio-Marrapodi-Martinez/p/book/9781041042426
