#AcademicRunPlaylist - 7/19/25

A Japanese festival in the twilight. On the left are old Japanese buildings with their sliding doors open, and on the right is a temporary stage with a thatched roof and bamboo mat floor. Red and white paper lanterns with the names of local sponsors written in black on them are strung up on lines connecting the surrounding buildings to the stage. Mostly women wearing kimonos and yukatas are facing the stage and clapping. On the stage are three men and one 10 ish year old boy.

We had a nice end to the week at the local matsuri in the mercifully cooler evening, and while beating the heat earlier I listened to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was a pair of talks by Aiday Sikhova (gender and credit in science) and Erina Ytsma (gender differences in response to incentives in academia) at the National Bureau of Economic Research https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntQLMzMkkB0

Next was an engaging panel on recent developments in Indian competition law at the GW Competition & Innovation Lab with Shilpi Bhattacharya, Hemangini Dadwal, Abir Roy, and Manisha Goel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3rszxSqb5Q

Last was the final day of the NBER economics and AI conference. Standout talks for me were from Namrata Kala (effects of digital surveillance and managerial clarity on performance) and Leon Musolff (algorithmic pricing and tacit collusion in e-commerce) Highly recommend the whole day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtrOBloqyUc
