#AcademicRunPlaylist - 7/18/25

I had a nice end to the week complete with some great views, and while traveling around town I was able to listen to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!
First was a slate of talks by Max Ruiz Luyten (generating planning options), Samuel Holt (generative simulations), and Katarzyna Kobalczyk (preference learning for alignment) at the University of Cambridge https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSv6j6sZIxI
Next was the second day of the National Bureau of Economic Research's digital economics and AI conference. I highly recommend the opening talk by Anders Humlum on the (small) labor market effects of generative AI as well as the talk by Kristina McElheran on the productivity effects of AI technologies in industrial applications https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-574AvzYdw
Next was the first day of the NBER science of science conference. I especially liked the talk by Justine Boudou and John McKeon on scientific innovation under supercomputing resource constraints https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjlHQQYAh2g
Next was a great talk by Felix Montag on the effects of M&A and foreign competition on jobs in the US appliance industry at NBER https://www.youtube.com/live/fg08B7_M0YA?si=jRQJ-ppvDQeSMizF&t=23650
Next was the last day of the NBER micro data and macro models conference. I particularly liked the talk by Laura Pilossoph on hours worked vs. hours wanted https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H209SoOMwTo
Last was an excellent talk by Xiaonan Ma on earnings cuts upon transitions and the role of stepping-stone employers at NBER https://www.youtube.com/live/U4eIMKAnfbY?si=ek5Hr9xNxXggio_E&t=3118
