#AcademicRunPlaylist - 7/10/25

A Japanese stone lantern on a small rock island amidst a deep green pond, with thick brush and trees growing on the far shore. I small bubbling waterfall flowing over large rocks is visible in the shade of the trees.

Tokyo got hit by a flash downpour (not pictured), which cancelled my train and led to me sloshing home without an umbrella (until mercifully coming upon a FamilyMart), but at least I was able to listen to more talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was a great talk by Misha Sra on rethinking UIs for and with LLMs at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peyepEy5U8E

Next was a fantastic pair of talks by Ran Abramitzky (how socio-economic background shapes academia) and Myera Rashid (typewriter adoption and women's economic outcomes) at the National Bureau of Economic Research Development of the American Economy conference. Highly recommend both https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsjaTFjmYiw

Next was a compelling talk by Boyuan Chen on building intelligent embodied systems at Stanford University https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxZ43iZD9_0

Next was a wide-ranging talk by Albrecht Schmidt on designing experiences beyond traditional interfaces at the MIT Media Lab https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QBG209fKAA

Last was an interesting talk by Andreea Rotarescu on the productivity effects of banking crises at the CEPR (unfortunately the talk is cut off half way) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRewzJwjimQ
