I've had a busy week, but today I was able to get out for a nice (albeit humid) run while listening to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was a great talk by Assoc. Prof. Suranga Nanayakkara on design interfaces that expand human abilities at the UCL Interaction Centre (UCLIC) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXdkl9nrmkA

Last was "Fighting for a Living," edited by Erik-Jan Zurcher. This collection is an absolute gem, providing insight into differences in labor recruiting techniques over the centuries in most of the world's most belligerent nations. Particularly illuminating were the chapters on Italy from 1861-1914 (Marco Rovinello) and on Western private contractors in war since the 90s (S. Yelda Kaya). I do wish there was more on the day to day lives and later career trajectories of military labor forces, although to be fair the volume is already quite long as it is. Highly recommend https://muse.jhu.edu/book/66285
