#AcademicRunPlaylist - 6/6/24

A stream running through thick, green forest on a bright day

In honor of the Celtics winning game 1 of the NBA finals, here's a nice green view that I enjoyed while listening to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was an interesting talk by Rafal Kocielnik on using AI for surgical training and auditing social biases in LLMs at the USC Information Sciences Institute https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsUyK1CO2t4

Next was an engaging panel on international efforts to regulate AI at CPDP Conferences with Julie Cohen (focusing on the recent US EO), Fumio Shimpo (Japan), Daniel Sprick (China), and Zoe Kardasiadou (EU) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFyQOwqjYik

Next was a great talk by Mihaela van der Schaar on the importance of collaboration between statisticians and machine learning experts at the Royal Statistical Society https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv8yRbqhmK8

Next was a fantastic conversation with Exequiel (Zeke) Hernandez (👋) on his new book "The Truth About Immigration" (available here: https://www.amazon.com/Truth-About-Immigration-Successful-Societies/dp/125028824X) at INSEAD. Zeke is one of the foremost researchers in this area, and methodically lays out the evidence for the overwhelmingly positive economic and social effects of immigration on the host nation. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pql9-FqBv78

Next was an interesting talk by Rose Mwangi on Africa's preparedness for ethical implementation of AI at the University of Toronto Joint Centre for Bioethics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0lexkQFR1o

Next was an excellent panel on the future of transparency and accountability in AI at CPDP with Nick Botton, Raziye Buse Çetin, Lucie-Aimée Kaffee, and Mark Dingemanse https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JB03JHKh8HE
