#AcademicRunPlaylist - 6/2/24
It was a beautiful day to end the weekend, complete with lots of talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!
First was a great talk by Michele Gelfand on cultural evolutionary mismatches in response to collective threat at Columbia's Center on Capitalism and Society https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RBVGF8zzfg
Next was a fantastic symposium on the ethical and policy issues of building a biomedical information commons at the Harvard Medical School Center for Bioethics with Robert Green (informational commons around clinical utility in genomic medicine), Heidi Williams (economic and research effects of proprietary rights over genetic data), and Robert Cook-Deegan on the panel. Williams' research was particularly striking, showing that these legal structures create a permanent deficit in research equivalent to ONE YEAR of global academic output. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFxrW39RGQ8
Next was a nice talk by Peter Howitt on creative destruction and US economic growth at Columbia's Center on Capitalism and Society https://youtu.be/U4coAolxPaE?si=IMwkudxH_AIOrthv&t=155
Next was an interesting talk by Robert Greenhill on Britain and the Brazilian coffee trade in the 19th century at the University of London’s School of Advanced Study https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkwtfn_63Ns
Next was an intriguing talk by Roman Frydman on using Knightian uncertainty in economic models at Columbia's Center on Capitalism and Society https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hma1u2zfRl0
Next was an informative panel on recent labor action in the US and developments in US labor law at the University of Minnesota Law School with Charlotte Garden and Matthew Bodie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YavEmbXCkbo
Last was an engaging session on women in an inclusive economy at Columbia's Center on Capitalism and Society with Graciela Chichilnisky, Antara Haldar, and Lisa D. Cook https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDpaAso6A3M
