I had a pretty busy day, but in the early evening I was able to get out for a short run and listen to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was a great discussion with Ethan Burris on how managers treat hearsay on noted Knicks fan Sekou Bermiss's Lit Review podcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYsYXXASEVI

Last was "Labors of Love" by Jason Rodriquez. Care work is arguably the most important sector of the next century, and this book provides an absolutely essential dive into this area, focusing on US nursing homes. With powerful and extremely insightful ethnographies, Rodriquez examines these institutions from multiple perspectives, demonstrating the challenges of simultaneously optimizing for residents, nurses, administrators, organizations, and the government. What is shown quite clearly is the need for some level of discretion across every level of the system, as well as how vital it is to improve working conditions for those at the front lines. Highly recommend https://nyupress.org/9781479864300/labors-of-love/
