#AcademicRunPlaylist - 6/2/25

I really enjoyed the first day of the MIT Professional Education course I'm co-teaching with Abdullah Almaatouq! While similarly enjoying the interminable traffic too and from campus I also enjoyed some talks from my #AcademicRunPlaylist!
First was an engaging conversation with David Autor on the dynamics of the US labor market on the Social Science Bites podcast https://www.socialsciencespace.com/2025/06/david-autor-on-the-labor-market/
Next was an intriguing talk by Boris Kovalerchuk on avoiding quasi-explanation in AI systems at the University of Washington eScience Institute https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2CJ3BGwNXI
Next was an interesting talk by Abhay Aneja on the intergenerational gender gap effects of WWI at the Women and Public Policy Program at the Harvard Kennedy School (WAPPP) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PQCplJktOo
Next was a compelling talk by Nick Bloom on the past and present of working from home at WAPPP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vowm3T9HfLc
Next was an important talk by Elizabeth Linos on bottlenecks for research evidence adoption at WAPPP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqifHUBZWq8
Next was a great talk by Lata Gangadharan on gender criteria gap implications for labor market outcomes at WAPPP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rQ9qi8NcjM
Next was an excellent talk by Oliver Hauser on re-designing resumes to reduce discrimination likelihood around career breaks at WAPPP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1D8_F2tl9E
Next was an impressive talk by Shuo Zhang on measuring bias in job recommender systems at WAPPP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yn_juenTvQA
Last was a fantastic talk by Ricardo Perez-Truglia on the relationship between pay transparency, salary negotiation, and the gender pay gap at WAPPP. Perez-Truglia nicely summarizes the state of the literature and implications for individuals and organizations. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcNaZ8ISkyU
