#AcademicRunPlaylist - 6/16/25

Summer vacation has started for the children, but while they were occupied with other activities I was still able to get out for a bit and listen to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!
First was an engaging panel on economic principles for the 21st century with Oriana Bandiera, Margaret Levi, and Dani Rodrik at the LSE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgtrRulQPRs
Last was "The Trouble with White Women" by Kyla Schuller. Schuller provides a powerful historical review and criticism of US feminism, demonstrating how white feminists have repeatedly sacrificed the rights of others to obtain more power and privilege for themselves, continuing to the modern day with TERFs. As with most gender studies books there are some non-sequitur criticisms of capitalism (really neoliberalism, but this is only sometimes made explicit). Regardless, the history alone is worth the price of entry - it ties so many threads in feminist history together that I haven't seen matched in any academic work. The criticism is also profound, compelling, and depressing. Highly recommend https://www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/kyla-schuller/the-trouble-with-white-women/9781645036883/?lens=bold-type-books
