#AcademicRunPlaylist - 6/14/25

A selfie of me on an empty and slightly wet paved bike path through a forest on an overcast day. I'm a bald, middle-aged, white man with a red beard flecked with white. I'm wearing glasses with thick black rims and a flannel plaid shirt with dark blue and light blue stripes over white.

It was a rainy one in Boston, but while walking around while the car was in the shop I was able to listen to a book for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

Today I listened to "Demonic Grounds" by Katherine McKittrick. This book is very much in the critical studies vein of scholarship, philosophically examining the relationships between race, gender, and place in North America. There are also some incredible, historically-grounded chapters that analyze Canadian history through these lenses, providing an eye-opening view into pre-British slavery, racism, and resistance. https://www.upress.umn.edu/9780816647026/demonic-grounds/
