#AcademicRunPlaylist - 5/31/24

A vertically oriented large Samsung TV with the text: Welcome back to the Media Lab, Alumni! We're so glad you're home. In between the two sentences is a picture of an arm with a copper and aluminum laser cut bracelet around it, and the MIT Media Lab logo is on the bottom left

I had a great day at the MIT Media Lab alumni event catching up with old friends, and afterwards I was able to listen to some talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was a great talk by Vicky Pryce on how capitalism tends to constrain and undervalue women's economic contributions and produce suboptimal outcomes overall at the Columbia Center on Capitalism and Society https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GofOY05PjFQ

Next was a fascinating talk by Ian Birchall, Sue Bruley, and Darryl Leeworthy on the 1926 UK general strike at the University of London’s School of Advanced Study https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILidCWzfGFk

Next was an engaging conversation with Barry Eichengreen on monetary policy, the gold standard and the Great Depression, and economic history more broadly at CASBS at Stanford https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyBfYEngec4

Next was an informative talk by Marc Schulz on the Harvard Study of Adult Development and implications on the importance of social connections and work for wellbeing at the Columbia Center on Capitalism and Society https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EncrOR1wcUc

Next was an interesting panel on the ethical challenges of brain implants at the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics with Julia Scott, Erick Ramirez, Matthew Gaudet, and Dorothée Caminiti https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yd7Hccj6CRQ

Last was a fast-paced talk by Agnes Callard on the philosophical relationship between capitalism and kinship at the Columbia Center on Capitalism and Society https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSQ4-vmsYx4
