#AcademicRunPlaylist - 5/24/24

A selfie of me in front of a quiet bend in the Charles River on a sunny day

It was pretty hot today so I had to content myself with a shorter run, but I was still able to get a bunch of talks in for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was an excellent symposium on gender rights in African legal landscapes at the Lawyers Hub and UNESCO with Maria Mbeneka, Christine Okeno, Jacqueline Ingutiah - Onyango, Favour Borokini (👋), and Hlengiwe Dube. There are lots of important insights on the intersection between gender rights, technology, and justice here, with Favour delivering incisive views into the issues with techno-optimism in this space https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pbFQZhNqdA

Next was a fascinating talk by Elliot Weiss on using VR headsets in cars on test tracks to simulate different driving conditions for safety testing at Stanford University https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xs6h5nNEzyA

Next was a short talk by Moritz Hiemann on using idealized models of firm profits to understand how they relate to firm valuation at Columbia Business School https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVIKkw4iC8g

Next was a fantastic talk by Daniel Paravisini on culture, discrimination, and economic exchange at the LSE. Paravisini takes us on a tour of different types of discrimination, possible underlying causes, and the effect of incentives, with compelling evidence from baseball games. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rM0ZcVILRY

Last was an informative talk by Carlo Amatucci on directors' liability in distressed companies at the Cambridge Faculty of Law https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7gFFpihLtM
