#AcademicRunPlaylist - 5/17/24
It was a beautiful spring day in Boston, and luckily I was able to go for a short run while listening to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!
First was a stellar 2-part talk by John Geanakoplos on the history of debt, the 2008 financial crisis, the Greek debt crisis, and how to think about monetary policy and macro financial risk at the Santa Fe Institute. Geanakoplos presents a unique, in-depth view of these critical issues, with some extremely amusing anecdotes mixed in. Highly recommend

Next was an interesting talk by Jean-Laurent Rosenthal on wealth and wealth inequality in Paris from 1872 to 1957 at the Paris School of Economics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLPivZviOgE
Next was a great talk by PJ Lamberson on communication networks and the wisdom of crows at the SONIC Research Group https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jb9vBduGMXY
Next was a short talk by Mostafa Harakeh on how changing accounting standards affects dividend policy at the Alliance Manchester Business School https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0lRj-B_4UY
Last was an amazing talk by David Spiegelhalter on trust in numbers at the Royal Statistical Society. Spiegelhalter delivers a masterful breakdown of the pipelines that propagate scientific and political evidence, the issues inherent in that pipeline, and how to improve the statistical evidence itself, how it's communicated, and the ability of audiences to assess it.
