I picked up a nice treat today, which went well with the talks from my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was a nice talk by Anuradha Basu on prior startup experience, social networks, and transnational entrepreneurship for Indian immigrants in Silicon Valley at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLgU4LmcCjw

Next was an excellent conversation with Pablo Ibáñez Colomo on the law and policy of the DMA on the Digital Markets Research Hub. The conversation gets into unique nature of the DMA and the obstacles to achieving its aims https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gj2XlGbMj-A

Next was an interesting talk by Johan Ugander on modeling attribute preferences beyond homophily at the SONIC Research Group https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weZjlLE30lQ

Next was an engaging discussion with Kunal Parker on the move of legal thought to focus on process from substance in the US's post-Civil War period on the Digging a Hole podcast https://www.diggingaholepodcast.com/episodes/parker

Next was a fabulous panel on regulatory models for algorithmic assessment at the UCL Faculty of Laws with Margot Kaminski, Michael Veale, and Jennifer Cobbe. The conversation here is an essential, holistic examination of the various regulations that get at aspects of algorithmic assessment, with some choice words about the EU AI Act. Veale has the quote of the event: "AI is not about clever technologies. It is a way of reshaping decision points in the world to extract value [...] The rest is some cool software and marketing." 🔥Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbVEgSLO3iY&t=5s

Next was a fantastic conversation with Ruth Milkman on the complexity of the working class experience, divisions and segmentation in labor markets, and the arc of unionization in the US at CASBS at Stanford. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvYVtvMJc0Y

Next was a great talk by Karen Leung on designing human-centric robotic safety methods at Stanford University https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEvSvaQ7-J4

Last was a thought-provoking talk by Luciana Parisi on the negative aesthetics in AI at the Stanford Humanities Center https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Qdsd-HhwQI
