#AcademicRunPlaylist - 4/28/24
The first day back from Asia is always a jetlag day, but at least I was able to push through with some help from talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!
First was a fascinating panel on the history of the Fair Labor Standards Act at the American Constitution Society with Kristin Downey, Richard Fiesta, Ruben J. Garcia, Robyn Muncy, Lynn Rhinehart, and Marlene Trestman. The conversation gets into the political, legal, social, and cultural context of the FLSA's adoption as well as the importance of enforcement after its passage. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eh2taMhgn9o
Next was an interesting talk by Yamir Moreno on using experiments to understand human cooperation at the Network Science Institute https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5QJjvsKSSs
Next was a sweeping talk by Ricardo Hausmann on the relationship between psychology, economics, complexity, and development at the Harvard Center for International Development https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuV1F149kcY
Next was an informative talk by Pierre van der Eng on the expansion of Chinese FDI and Chinese firms in Indonesia at the Crawford School of Public Policy. I also liked the contrast with Japan that was brought up in the Q&A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVNZXi1iQY4
Next was an intriguing talk by Gianluca Carnabuci on how intra-organizational networks impact innovation metrics at the SONIC Research Group https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdHbnyo-2a8
Next was a fantastic talk by Priti Shah on creativity and hyperfocus in ADHD at the University Of Michigan Department Of Psychology. Shah demonstrates how ADHD individuals creatively outperform neurotypical individuals in certain settings, emphasizing the importance of the context in determining whether or not ADHD individuals have an advantage. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLgAJy4HHps
Last was a great talk by Linda Scott on women's entrepreneurship around the world at Brown University. Scott takes us on a tour of Uganda, Moldova, and the US, showing significant but different barriers in these different regions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwxvMTFa_V4
