#AcademicRunPlaylist - 4/25/24

A white sign under a metal slot listing departments in Japan's METI, with Japanese on top and English below. The departments listed are (from left to right and top to bottom): commerce and service industry policy group, service affairs policy division, service industries office, education industry office, sports industry office, cool Japan policy division, cool Japan promotion office, fashion policy office, and design policy office

I had an absolutely jam-packed final full day in Japan, wrapping up my meetings with a fantastic meeting at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (which has some fascinating departments). I was still able to grab a bit of time during transit to listen to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was a thought-provoking talk by Kasper Hornbæk on the stunning lack of theory development in HCI research at UCL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pKPVL1X2lE

Next was a great talk by Igor Letina on acquihires, talent hoarding, and competition policy at the Mannheim Centre for Competition and Innovation (MaCCI) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4FfTGHgMZo

Next was an interesting talk by Volker Nocke on acquihiring for monopsony power at MaCCI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1rTVN1MpnM

Last was an excellent talk by Gloria Mark on human attention, technology, and recent trends at the UC San Diego Design Lab https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5Ve8L57ECI
