#AcademicRunPlaylist - 4/2/24

A selfie of me in front of the entrance to the Harvard Law School library

I had a great time on my first law-focused panel at Harvard Law School with Katri Nousiainen and Joonas Keski-Rahkonen on the social and legal ramifications of rapidly developing technologies such as quantum computers and AI (no recording unfortunately), and I was able to bookend the day with some stimulating talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was an important panel on slavery, capitalism, and the making of the modern world at the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs with Jennifer Morgan, Seth Rockman, and Anthony Bogues https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DJkIRriNZ8

Next was an interesting talk by Chahat Deep Singh on perception systems for resource constrained robots at the Maryland Robotics Center https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmxPoKNlXjw

Next was an informative panel on drawing the boundaries between the DMA and national law on Oles Andriychuk's Digital Markets Research Hub with George Gryllos, Alba Ribera Martínez, and Marco Botta https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3OKRiTpOX0

Next was a great talk by Faith Johnson on socially aware visual navigation with hierarchical learning at the Maryland Robotics Center. This is an impressive, elegant method, and I'm looking forward to seeing this work continuing to develop https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGQtYk70WFs

Next was a thought-provoking conversation with Alex Edmans on confirmation bias on the Social Science Bites podcast. Edmans makes crucial points about how people tend to discount evidence that goes against our priors/biases. I hope the book grapples with the issue of limited time, as it seems like the biggest flaw if one takes this approach to its logical conclusion https://socialsciencebites.libsyn.com/alex-edmans-on-confirmation-bias

Next was a nice discussion with Ruth V. Aguilera on corporate governance, stakeholder theory, and more on the Stakeholder Podcast https://stakeholdermedia.libsyn.com/ruth-aguilera
