#AcademicRunPlaylist - 4/17/24

Three teenage girls sitting in front of a narrow, wide touchscreen mounted in front of a dashboard of the front half of a blue, 1950s-era car. Behind them are two stools in front of a large picture of a white truck with a white driver, with a green sign above it that reads Follow the Green Book

My trip to DC wrapped up nicely, with a morning session at the Edison Electric Institute in conversation on AI with Lawrence Jones and Jeannette Gorzala, followed by some afternoon meetings and a visit to the National Museum for African American History (which I highly recommend, and the Green Book interactive exhibit was powerful). On my way back to Boston I was also able to listen to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was an engaging session on legitimacy in international law and institutions at the UC Berkeley School of Law with Bernard Oxman (nonparticipation and perceptions of legitimacy), Lori Damrosch (legitimacy of economic sanctions), Tom Ginsburg (international courts and democratic backsliding), and David G. Kay (global internet governance without the UN). Listening to Ginsburg's talk while walking around DC was an experience https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMRVOq8o4sI

Next was an informative talk by Risper Onyango on the African data protection landscape at Lawyers Hub https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKwj6al8iyU

Next was a great talk by Morgan Frank on workplace skill complexity at the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy. I got a kick out of the youthful pictures at the end of the presentation (which is from ~5.5 years ago) of a number of folks in the space https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLgExdFjhd4

Next was a nice talk by Risper Onyango on the state of AI policy in Africa at RightsCon Costa Rica https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6F36azzmGo

Last was a thorough pair of talks on the legal and practical implications of cross-border data flows, with particular emphasis on the EU, UK, and US, by Debbie Evans and Anne Flanagan at the QMUL School of Law https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45o110sgaWM
