Well my kids had off today and I'm trying to wrap up a bunch of work for the week, but my dog had the right idea by sleeping through it. During some of the madness I fit in talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!
First was an informative talk by Christian T. Lundblad on this month's surprising BLS numbers at the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6RZmD0cOf4
Next was the National Bureau of Economic Research labor studies meeting. I particularly liked the talks by Garima Sharma (effects of mandated maternity leave), Moritz Lubczyk (how female WW2 hires changed science in US firms), and Suresh Naidu (occupation coding, tacit knowledge, and wages) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RR_0lbLf55Q
Next was a great talk by Mayra Feddersen-Martinez on immigration regimes and labor market integration in Chile at the Stanford Center for Latin American Studies https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oe49xHLXfls
Last was "Private Equity Laid Bare" by Ludovic Phalippou. This book is perhaps too accessible, trying to be all things to all people when it comes to covering the basics of Private Equity. Much of this is done from the perspective of a prospective LP who's trying to understand the industry, its business model, and the most prominent firms. If you're at all familiar with PE you probably won't get very much from this, but if you've only heard about it in a few articles you're likely to learn something https://pelaidbare.com/buy/
