#AcademicRunPlaylist - 3/4/24

A half full glass of beer with most of the remaining half as foam next to a large can of Asahi super dry

I finished the day off with an enjoyable dinner meeting with some folks from Code2040, and earlier I was able to listen to some enjoyable talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was an engaging panel on preparing African youth and employers for future jobs at TechCabal with Seyi Ladejobi, Tolu Agunbiade, Femi Taiwo, Solape Agagu Hammond, and Emmanuel Michael Emechete. While this is a pre-pandemic discussion, it's still extremely relevant https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZf6gxTAacc

Next was a great pair of talks by Florian Frisel and Mikaël Schinazi on the historical evolution of international arbitration at the QMUL School of Law https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIqkTfpUbX0

Next was an informative conversation with Anne Choike on the role of local governments in the US on firm governance on the Business Scholarship podcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBFVR_f86e0

Next was a fantastic discussion with Alison Gopnik on the social science of caregiving on the Social Science Bites podcast. Gopnik discusses fascinating evidence of the importance of care in human, economic, and societal development, as well as the obligatory examination of whether or not robots can replace human care (tldr; no). Highly recommend https://www.socialsciencespace.com/2024/03/alison-gopnik-on-care/

Next was an interesting talk by Antonio Torralba on using agents to try to explain the internal activity of large neural network models at the Institute for Experiential AI at Northeastern University https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkCKae3_C_g

Last was a thought-provoking talk by Barbara Tversky on how action and space shapes thought at Stanford University https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmc4wEL2aPQ
