#AcademicRunPlaylist - 3/31/24

The Soldiers and Sailors monument in Boston Common on a sunny day

I had a lovely time around Boston Common today, complete with some talks from The University of Sydney Law School for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was a wide-ranging panel on the Australian Parliamentary Joint Commitee's corporate insolvency inquiry with Jason Harris and Michael Murray https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfvyvFwlxqA

Next was an intriguing talk by Stephen Bottomley on the responsibility of shareholders, with good discussion from Rebecca Lim https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDPfH2Odd6A

Next was a great talk by Adam Waldman on issues with the Australian personal property securities act and the corporations act https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-m2tSrJXgs

Next was an engaging panel comparing Australia's insolvent trading regime with New Zealand's reckless trading regime with Jason Harris, Mark Wellard, and Natasha McHattan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lq_e5GsSEr0

Next was a fascinating symposium on the comparative history of international arbitration in Australia, Japan, and beyond with Giorgio Fabio Colombo (The Maria Luz Arbitration in Meiji Japan), Nobumichi Teramura (History of Arbitration in Japan), Luke Nottage (arbitration in Australia), and Jie Huang (arbitration in China). There's a big focus on Japan, starting in the 1870s and going to today. The Maria Luz case is beyond interesting, spanning international law, arbitration, colonialism, and economics. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0X6XVOR0Y6U

Last was an informative talk by Natalia Jevglevskaja on Australia's consumer data right (I'm a bit concerned with the emphasis on individual consent) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUMafiIqdUY
