#AcademicRunPlaylist - 3/28/24
It rained a ton today (pic of the curious deer is from earlier this week), but I still was able to listen to a bunch of talks inside for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!
First was an interesting talk by Jacob Fisher on modeling diffusion in networks at the SONIC Research Group https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLodRqLFhXI
Next was a packed panel on trust, algorithms, and institutions at the Data & Society Research Institute with Jason D'Cruz, Chelsea Peterson-Salahuddin, and Irene Solaiman. I particularly liked the different perspectives on the notion of trust and trustworthiness when applied to people and algorithms. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMAvITvcDPI
Next was an engaging conversation with Katy Milkman on approaches to individual behavior change at INSEAD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyiluQ4rfGQ
Next was a great session on the changing landscape of UK data protection law and enforcement at the Cambridge Faculty of Law with Michael Veale and Gavin Freeguard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9WIqFlQCFk&t=27s
Next was a thought-provoking discussion with Eleanor Fox on antitrust enforcement and computational antitrust in the Global South at CodeX, The Stanford Center for Legal Informatics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXRSDsiYbSk
Next was a fantastic conversation with Amy Edmondson on how to think about failure in business at INSEAD. Edmondson clearly explains her vital work on why failing well is essential, why the predictability of a context is important for understanding the types of failure that are acceptable, and how organizations can create cultures that support effective failures. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Umu_mLPlAkw
Next was an informative session on UK data protection enforcement history at the Cambridge Faculty of Law with David Erdos (regulatory enforcement and UK data protection), Claudia Berg (ICO's view on enforcement), and Jim Killock (whack-a-mole enforcement) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEcKNfJtohE
Last was an intriguing talk by Jesper Bojeryd on the role of housing in inter-regional worker mobility at the Economics of Migration seminar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFYbBlt544c
