#AcademicRunPlaylist - 3/21/24

I loved ending the day with a great event at Ritsumeikan University (it should be up on YouTube soon), and while it's Japanese except for the excellent short videos from Joe Coughlin and Luke Yoquinto I highly recommend it, particularly for the moving and insightful talk by Dr. Yuta Esumi on building resilient regional hospital systems. Before the event, I also was able to listen to some talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was a fantastic talk by Lingfei Wu on remote collaboration and breakthrough scientific ideas at the Carnegie Mellon University Software and Societal Systems Department (S3D). Wu convincingly demonstrates that remote collaboration tends to lead to less novel scientific publications using a variety of metrics, with big implications for science and business as well. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnefpjfBK78

Next was an interesting talk by Joseph DelPreto on using sensing to enrich human interactions with machines at the GRASP Lab https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKvVd5ngFh0

Next was a wide-ranging talk by Benjamin Golub on the economic implications of different classes of networks at the Julis-Rabinowitz Center for Public Policy & Finance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubPuxoLDs9k

Last was an intriguing talk by Morgan Frank on skill complexity and the future of work at the CMU S3D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2H5AkuHkMWg

BTW the Mannheim Centre for Competition and Innovation (MaCCI) posted a great talk by Pınar Akman on the jurisprudence on competition abuse in EU competition law, but they took it down 😢, if they repost it I'll include it on a future list
