#AcademicRunPlaylist - 3/5/25

A selfie of me in front of a small forest with some muddy grass in front. I'm a middle-aged white man with a red beard flecked with white wearing a grey winter hat, black sunglasses, and a grey winter coat over a dark blue shirt.

It was another warm day in Boston, and while trudging through the muddy environs I was able to enjoy listening to some talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was a great panel on AI, intellectual property, and the creative industries with Tanya Aplin, Martin Kretschmer, Luke McDonagh, and Madhavi Sunder at the LSE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPXSORZWFBs

Next was an interesting talk by Xuesu Xiao on developing robots that learn in new environments at CU Boulder https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i48_agRKEUY

Next was a slate of short talks by Ho Jin Choi (multimodal sensing for robot control), Siming He (active perception for robotics), and PEI-AN HSIEH (models for quadrotor flight formations) at the GRASP Lab https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGXhT3c4GD0

Next was an excellent talk by Peizhu "Pam" Qian on developing robotic systems that explicitly optimize for human mental models in workplace applications at CU Boulder https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNaeHzAKRRU

Next was a long-awaited discussion between Ann Lipton and Michael Levin on the recent prospective changes to Delaware corporation law on the Shareholder Primacy podcast. There's so much here, honestly I wish this were twice as long, mostly because of my morbid fascination with Delaware politicians eviscerating the franchise to placate a few extremely wealthy people. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBnJ09zXaeE

Last was an intriguing talk by Anand Bhattad on the degree to which physical properties are encoded in generative image models at the GRASP Lab https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdcbFJRTxWo
