#AcademicRunPlaylist - 2/26/24
It was a positively springlike day which made for an extremely enjoyable short run with nice talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!
First was an excellent talk by Sangin Park on South Korea's economic development and the power of chaebols at the Stigler Center for the Study of the Economy and the State. Park clearly explains the meteoric rise of the Korean economy and the accompanying rise in political power of chaebols, which has resulted in some troubling developments. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-Fsh3kS8Bg
Next was an interesting talk by Andrei Hagiu on data-enabled learning, network effects, and competitive advantage at the Toulouse School of Economics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdIgno7jNHw
Last was a fantastic talk by Paul Leonardi on how digital simulations shape prediction and behavior at the HBS Digital Initiative. Starting with a powerful description of the concept of simulacra, Leonardi moves onto how simulations and models become realities in their own right and the implications for organization and society at large.
