#AcademicRunPlaylist - 2/25/24

About a dozen Canadian Geese standing on grass near the shore of a wide part of the Charles River

It was a good end to the weekend, complete with some nice walks and talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was an important talk by Daniel Crane and discussion from Liza Lovdahl Gormsen on monopolies and the rise of Nazism in Germany at the Stigler Center for the Study of the Economy and the State. Crane provides deep historical context for the change in industrial cartel orientation towards the Nazi regime and their role in WW2 and beyond. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nz4eYhy7I_I

Last was the future of work conference at the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI). This is a packed two-day conference, and I particularly liked that talks from Dominika Polkowska and Bartosz Mika (the business model of ride-hailing platforms in Poland), Dario Guarascio (labor and digital platform power asymmetries), and Jessica Pidoux (audit of Uber's upfront pricing algorithms)
