I took this before the temperature dropped precipitously and we got hit by a blizzard, but while enjoying the snow from the comfort of the indoors I listened to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!
First was a great talk by Eunmi Mun on merit-based reward systems and gender wage inequality at the Women and Public Policy Program at the Harvard Kennedy School https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBZ_ErMIzvQ
Next was a packed panel on dynamic competition analysis in competition law at the UCL Faculty of Laws with Daniele Calisti, Nikita Divissenko, Eleanor Fox, Gönenç Gürkaynak, Ioannis Lianos, Stavros Makris, Despoina (Deni) Mantzari, and Fiona Scott Morton https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaFwlz9J2ek
Next was an excellent talk by Jason Eshraghian on running LLMs on neuromorphic hardware at the NSF AI Institute for Learning-enabled Optimization at Scale (TILOS) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5V_3B4wKCI
Next was a compelling talk by David Held on precise and generalizable robot manipulation at the GRASP Lab https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNjiIXjWqTc
Last was "Philosophy in the Islamic World" by Peter Adamson. This book is an insightful tour of the varied schools of philosophy that have flourished across the Islamic world, encompassing not just Islamic scholars but also Christian and Jewish ones. Adamson clearly situates some of the most important developments in these traditions, following both historical and philosophical developments to show their deep engagement with Greek philosophy and the many intellectual innovations that they built on top of that over the centuries. If you're interested in this field this book pairs extremely well with Adamson's book on Ibn Sīnā. Highly recommend https://academic.oup.com/book/859
