I clearly wasn't giving my dog enough attention today, and after surviving the onslaught of canine hugs I listened to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!
First was an insightful talk by Sukhadeo Thorat on Indian legal developments around discrimination against scheduled castes and scheduled tribes in higher education at the Boston Study Group https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tT-JMSXuxcc
Next was an engaging conversation with Farshad Ghodoosi and Tal Kastner on the jurisprudence of the against-the-drafter doctrine on the Business Scholarship Podcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWq8nmnJk-k
Next was an important talk by Alexis Thompson on the research ethics and policy implications of gene therapy for sickle cell disease at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n60PrYybDjs
Last was "After the Map" by Bill Rankin. This is a fascinating look at the emergence of modern cartography and navigation, digging into the methods and technologies over the last century as well as how these were both shaped by political and organizational forces. There are some genuinely eye-popping moments when it comes to navigation technology during WW2 (did you know that Britain repaired German navigation beacons because they also used them?), and the deeply socio-technical nature of maps and the purpose of technologies that help us move through space is revisited through the decades. Highly recommend https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/author/R/W/au22655247.html
