#AcademicRunPlaylist - 12/31/24

The Embrace Boston memorial to MLK, which is a roughly 5 meter tall bronze statue of two pairs of arms wrapped around each other, in the late afternoon on a sunny day.

I had a great last day of 2024 downtown with the family, and earlier I was also able to finish off my 2024 #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was an interesting talk by Yasmine Kotturi on building peer support sociotechnical systems for gig work at the UMD Human Computer Interaction Lab https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OOIn5rP5gg

Last was "The Silk Roads" by Peter Frankopan. This book is best viewed as two separate volumes - the first focuses broadly on the original silk road geographies, nicely examining the relationship between trade, cultural exchange, and global politics. This volume is very insightful and unique, and is mostly picked up again in the conclusion. The second volume is a western-focused global history covering the period from 1500 to today, which is a good review if you're unfamiliar with the period. https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/253699/the-silk-roads-by-peter-frankopan/
