#AcademicRunPlaylist - 11/6/25

A selfie of me in front of a large lawn with bushy trees dotting it in front of the skyscrapers of Shinjuku on a cloudy day. I'm a bald, middle-aged, white man with a red beard flecked with white. I'm wearing black sunglasses and a yellow and blue running shirt.

I was able to go out for a shorter run around Tokyo yesterday, and while taking in the sights I listened to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was a great conversation with Nan Jia on how the introduction of automation influences employee engagement and creativity on Sekou Bermiss's podcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBOXhylxHQ4

Next was a fantastic discussion between Ann Lipton and Michael Levin on the complex relationship between federal and state corporation law on the Shareholder Primacy podcast. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coOMt0a-tOE

Next was an essential talk by Claudia Goldin on the historical arc of women's rights at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. This is a far more optimistic take on our current moment than I expected, and as always Goldin is appointment viewing. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNd8ZtTcaP8

Next was a compelling talk by Navyug Gill on the development and proliferation of the concept of the "peasantry" in colonial Punjab at The Watson School of International and Public Affairs at Brown University https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZ3-z1ALHhY

Last was a star-studded panel on inequality in the history of economic and political thought at The Stone Centre at UCL with Branko Milanovic, David Lay Williams, John Cassidy, Beatrice Cherrier, and Anna Stansbury https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5N_FFf2IFA
