#AcademicRunPlaylist - 11/3/24
We took this guy for a long walk today, and while taking some breaks I was able to listen to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!
First was an interesting talk by Pierre Larouche on disruptive innovation and antitrust at the GW Competition & Innovation Lab https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNDxjVdU5V4
Next was a great talk by Nicholas Economides on the potential effects of interoperability mandates in the presence of network effects at the Stanford Digital Economy Lab. I would have really liked an examination of Mastodon here, but it's a good framework to think about the antitrust and regulatory perspectives on this issue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGkWPFOeUKA&t=27s
Next was a short talk by Thomas Nachbar on politically dynamic competition at the GW Competition & Innovation Lab https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUX35nHzNz8&t=6s
Next was a thought-provoking talk by Anirudha Majumdar on designing robots that proactively ask for help by modeling uncertainty from large model outputs at the Carnegie Mellon University Robotics Institute https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2DWXl9BhGo
Next was an informative talk by Gregory Brown on interpreting the latest US jobs report at the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise (tldr; weather and strike effects had an impact, pretty much every indicator is very good) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1E-vbhIC48
Next was a fantastic talk by Olatz Román Blanco on the geography of jobs and couple migration at the Economics of Migration seminar. Román shows the importance of geographic job concentration, relationship status, and gender on migration patterns. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttK7rQQO-Kc
Next was an engaging discussion of the role of cities in economic development with Edward Glaeser and Diego Puga on the VoxDev podcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Hj9LjejK9U
Next was an excellent talk by Hiramori Daiki on queer demography in Japan at Tokyo College https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ki3wsMAzJgk
Next was an intriguing talk by Elliott Green on the link between industrialization and national identity in modern Africa at the LSE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbH3Z5Exyaw
Last was a fascinating talk by Bobak Mosadegh on using soft robotics, mixed reality, and deep learning for diagnostic and surgical procedures at the Maryland Robotics Center https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfPrSmMyBMI
