#AcademicRunPlaylist - 10/21/25

A selfie of me in front of a brook cutting through forest, with a walking path on the right, on a sunny day. I'm a bald, middle-aged, white man with a red beard flecked with white. I'm wearing black sunglasses and a dark blue, long-sleeved running shirt.

I had a lot of writing to get through today, but I was still able to get out for a shorter run and listen to talks for my #AcademicRunPlaylist!

First was an engaging conversation with Erik Hovenkamp on antitrust, the consumer welfare standard, new market harms, and new approaches to remedies on the Digital Markets Research Hub https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QD2Y_6DNkE

Next was a great talk by Marc Steinberg on characterizing corporate directors and officers as "discretionaries" instead of fiduciaries at the Cambridge Faculty of Law https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6d6Ys4UC1Wc

Next was an important talk by Nancy Folbre on valuing care work at the Women and Public Policy Program at the Harvard Kennedy School. Folbre concisely describes why economics has traditionally undervalued this work, more appropriate valuation methods, and the need to expand the meaning of work and outputs. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeExK00GXS0

Last was an interesting talk by Ashani Jayasekera on data preprocessing strategies to enhance machine learning fairness at the Social Data Science Center https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXRykrfpqyA
